News, Views and Random Concerns: Citizen Journalism for the Good of Talbot County Maryland

The Village Center Board, I was Afraid of This

A significant number of Talbot County residents are raising
concerns about certain activities by certain members of the Village
Center Board (VCB)

It has come to our attention that one or two Board members are seeking to have the VCB play a much larger role in county policy formulation than was ever intended by the VCB Charter. We support that charter and its intent to have County
Council-appointed representatives bring information back to village
center residents during the formative stages of the “small
comprehensive plans” being developed for our county’s village
centers.

Its is our understanding that the VCB is now meeting
monthly when the original charter envisaged the VCB meet “no less
than quarterly”, which is fine. The expressed purpose of these meetings was to obtain information about certain planning initiatives effecting specific village centers and report back to residents what transpires at these meetings.

The VCB’s role by Charter is advisory; it was never intended to be a policy formulation entity.  The VCB is not empowered nor is it granted the authority to develop or implement County-wide policy.  Certain members of the VCB should stop looking for a sympathetic ear on the Council and treating the “SBA – Sherwood cell tower” issue as if the VCB is empowered to evolve policies affecting wireless communications in Talbot.
